Caverns of Time is a special Wild format card set, released and available for collecting on August 31, 2023.[1]

The card set depicts an event where the Infinite Dragonflight is trying to go back in time and change the way the Battle of Ahn'Qiraj went against the Old God  C'Thun. The fate of the world—and the true timeline—hangs in the balance! It's up to you to hold off their attack... or join them instead...

Caverns of Time is Hearthstone's first direct-to-Wild card set, meaning that cards in it will only be usable in Wild and various other game modes, but not in Standard.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • Caverns of Time contains 147 cards, of which 113 are pre-existing cards from Legacy through Mean Streets of Gadgetzan, and 34 are brand new.
  • The 113 pre-existing cards have two versions that exist in parallel (similarly to the Core set): One copy in the original set, and one in Caverns of Time.
    • If the player already owns a card in its original set, such as the Goblins vs Gnomes version of  Malorne, they will not open it in Caverns of Time packs until they've opened all cards they don't own from that rarity.[1]
    • Both the original and Caverns of Time versions are associated; therefore you can only use a total of 2 copies of them in decks. For example, you can only use:
    • Both versions are treated as the same cards for the Highlander cards' conditions.
  • Caverns of Time packs can contain Signature versions of pre-existing cards. For example, the Signature copy of  Aya Blackpaw can be opened from Caverns of Time packs, Mean Streets of Gadgetzan packs, Wild packs, or any other pack that can grant it. Similarly, the Signature copy of  Yogg-Saron, Hope's End can be opened from Caverns of Time or other applicable packs, even though it isn't part of the Caverns of Time set..[2]

    Lore[edit | edit source]

Forces of  C'Thun in the Ahn'Qiraj War

Caverns of Time is the story of  Nozdormu, Aspect of the Bronze Dragonflight, and his attempts to stop  Murozond the Infinite from altering the past. In Ahn'Qiraj, Murozond seeks to save  C'Thun and create a dark future.

To stop Murozond, Nozdormu builds an army of heroes from Hearthstone's past, present, and FUTURE.

Caverns of Time takes place during the Ahn'Qiraj War.

    Ahn'Qiraj War[edit | edit source]

The Ahn'Qiraj War (also called the second War of the Shifting Sands or just the War of the Shifting Sands) was a conflict that started after a millennia of the imprisonment of the qiraji within the city of Ahn'Qiraj. The qiraji and their god used this time to recover their former strength, until the point that some qiraji were finding ways to bypass the wall.

    Ahn'Qiraj[edit | edit source]

Ahn'Qiraj (pronounced "AWN-key-rawj",), or the qiraji empire, is the city-kingdom of the qiraji found in the southern part of Silithus. It was originally a titan research station which housed the Old God  C'Thun before being commandeered by the aqir, who would become the qiraji led by the Twin Emperors: Vek'nilash and Vek'lor. Following the War of the Shifting Sands, the kingdom was contained from the rest of the world by the Scarab Wall, until it was opened again recently.
