Lore[edit | edit source]
In Hearthstone[edit | edit source]
The lore of Return to Naxxramas is original to Hearthstone. While it combines two settings seen in World of Warcraft — Naxxramas and Silvermoon — the story of the floating necropolis of Naxxramas approaching the city of Silvermoon is an original concept. In World of Warcraft, Naxxramas resides in Dragonblight, while Silvermoon is located in the Eastern Kingdoms, two entirely different continents.
Naxxramas is a reused setting, previously seen in Curse of Naxxramas. For more in-depth lore about Naxxramas in Hearthstone, as well as the lore of Naxxramas in World of Warcraft, see Curse of Naxxramas#Lore.
Blog description[edit | edit source]
As the Battle for Silvermoon rages on, a massive shadow blots out the sun. To their horror, the Blood Elves see a floating necropolis, Naxxramas, approaching their fair city. This evil entity is unnatural, but something about it feels familiar. They brace themselves and call for help. This is the March of the Lich King Mini-Set, Return to Naxxramas![1]
History[edit | edit source]
On February 8, 2023, the PlayHearthstone twitter account hinted at the mini-set by posting a thread of 3 images depicting Naxxramas as it approaches Silvermoon.[3]
The next day on February 9, 2023, a blog post for Return to Naxxramas was posted, and card reveals began shortly after on the same day.[1]
Trivia[edit | edit source]
