History
Prior to Patch 28.2.0.190416, Fate Splitter would generate the card that destroyed it. However, due to causing many bugs, the text was reworked.[1] For historical purposes, the functionality of Fate Splitter before patch 28.2 is listed below.
- In minion combat, Fate Splitter will generate the minion that destroyed it. It does not matter whether this occurs by attacking, a Deathrattle, a triggered effect, or any other form of removal caused by a minion.[2]
- If Fate Splitter is destroyed by a Hero Power, it will generate nothing.[3]
- If Fate Splitter's Deathrattle is not triggered from it being destroyed (such as by using Play Dead), it will generate nothing.[3]
- Fate Splitter's Deathrattle will generate Blood Boil even if it is destroyed by Blood Boil's enchantment, not the card itself.[3]
- If Fate Splitter is destroyed by a card that casts spells, it will generate the spell that actually destroys it, not the card casting the spell.[2]
- Example: Fate Splitter will generate Fireball if it is destroyed by Yogg-Saron, Hope's End's Fireball.
- If Fate Splitter dies to a Fireball that was originally a Shifting Scroll, it will generate a Fireball that does not have the enchantment of Shifting Scroll, and will not continue to transform each turn.[4]
- If Fate Splitter dies to an attacking hero while they have a weapon equipped, Fate Splitter will generate the weapon.
- If Fate Splitter dies to an attacking hero while they do not have a weapon equipped, or if Fate Splitter dies to a defending hero, then the following will occur under additional conditions:
- If the hero is one of the 10 original Heroes, or is a Hero skin, Fate Splitter will generate nothing.
- If the hero is not one of the 10 original Heroes or a Hero skin, i.e. Hero cards, Ragnaros the Firelord (via Majordomo Executus), or any boss from any of the Solo Adventures, then Fate Splitter will generate a copy of the Hero card of the attacking or defending hero.
- If Fate Splitter attacks into Misdirection and dies from the new target, Fate Splitter will generate a copy of the new target. This also includes original Heroes and Hero skins, though the latter is likely a bug.
Trivia
- This card's flavour text is a line from the 1997 Disney film "Hercules".

Patch changes
- Patch 28.2.0.190416 (2023-12-05):
- Now reads: "Deathrattle: Get a copy of the last card your opponent played." (previously: "Deathrattle: Get a copy of the card that killed this.")
- Patch 27.2.0.183876 (2023-08-22):
- Fixed a bug where Fate Splitter wouldn't create a copy of a hero card if killed by that card's Battlecry effect.
- 2023-08-25: Fixed a bug where Fate Splitter always gave From De Other Side when summoned by it. Now, if Fate Splitter attacks a minion and dies from that combat, it will give that minion; it will still give From De Other Side if it dies from From De Other Side's effect.
- Patch 27.0.0.181554 (2023-07-25):
- Added.
