Hero zone effects are effects on spells that do nothing immediately, but are instead put in your hero zone, appearing around your hero's portrait.
- Types of keyworded hero zone effects include Secret, Quest, Questline, and Sidequest. For more information about those keywords, see their respective pages.
- Most hero zone effects have a condition that needs to be met in order for the card to activate. For example, Secrets require your opponent do peform an action, such as attacking, while Quests require you to peform actions, such as playing specific cards.
- You can only have five cards with hero zone effects active at a time, with specific restrictions:
- Only one Quest or Questline.
- Only one copy of a specific Secret or Sidequest.
- Any number of copies of any other type of hero zone card.
- Currently, three types of hero zone effects exist in the game, all of which are spells:
- Secrets, which are displayed with a question mark.
- Quests (as well as Questlines and Sidequests), which are displayed with an exclamation mark.
- Triggered spells, such as Sigils, Objectives, and Auras, which are displayed with the Triggered effect "lightning" symbol.
- For Wild format listings, see Hero zone effect/Wild format.
