Lore

Warcraft Wiki icon.pngThis section uses content from the Warcraft Wiki.
Sif was a vrykul woman and the wife of Keeper Thorim. She was murdered by Loken, who then tricked Thorim into believing that it had been the work of Arngrim, the king of the frost giants. This caused Thorim to turn against his giant allies, and later lapse into a long depression.
A tendril of Yogg-Saron impersonating Sif appears as an add in Thorim's boss encounter in Ulduar.
Muradin Bronzebeard believes that, based on their similar names, Sif may have come from the Hyldnir village of Sifreldar, or alternatively that the village was named after her. He has suggested that she may have been the winner of an ancient Hyldsmeet, a Hyldnir competition held to determine who will "rule by Thorim's side".
After the Pantheon fell silent, Thorim's brother Loken grew close to Sif, often meeting with her in private to tell her of his worries. In time, the two fell in love and began an affair. Yogg-Saron, from its prison within Ulduar, twisted Loken's thoughts and turned his love into obsession. Loken began to suggest that he and Sif should make their relationship public, but she refused, knowing that the keepers' unity would be destroyed if Thorim discovered the affair. She eventually broke her ties with Loken and told him to leave her in peace. Afraid of losing her, Loken lashed out and killed her.
As Loken scrambled to cover up Sif's death, her spirit appeared before him. To his surprise, she forgave him and told him to hurry, lest Thorim find out the truth and the titan-forged descend into civil war. Unbeknownst to Loken, this version of Sif was an illusion created by Yogg-Saron. On the spirit's suggestion, Loken tricked Thorim into believing that Sif had been killed by Arngrim, the king of the frost giants, triggering a war between Thorim's storm giants and Arngrim's frost giants. Sif's false spirit continued to guide Loken and convinced him to create an army with the  Forge of Wills, with which he ended the conflict. Unbeknownst to him, Yogg-Saron had planted the curse of flesh inside the forge. When he noticed the curse spreading among his warriors, Loken called out to Sif for advice, but this time she remained silent. Loken realized that Yogg-Saron had tricked him, a discovery that destroyed the last of his noble heart. At the same time, Thorim brooded at the Temple of Storms for centuries over the death of Sif.
Thousands of years later, within the Ulduar raid, Yogg-Saron continued to impersonate Sif and used her to keep Thorim subdued. Thorim's hard mode required that he be defeated in her presence, where she attacked the raid with heavy frost damage spells. After the players broke Thorim of his nightmarish controlled state, Sif transformed into a tentacle of Yogg-Saron and dispersed through the ground.
