Blood Boil was a card Blizzard was playing with during March of the Lich King development.[1] It was reworked and replaced with the current Blood Boil during development.

- Plagues were an old death knight mechanic pitched during early development. For more information, see Leeching Plague.
- Prior to Return to Naxxramas, this was the only known instance of two different Runes being used on the same card.
- Such an example did not exist in the live game until Frost Queen Sindragosa.
- The temporary artwork for this card comes from the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game "Twilight of the Dragons" series, for the card Twisted Death Pact.
