Festeroot Hulk's base stats are subpar for its mana cost. Players should therefore try to attack with as many minions as possible before attacking with it, in order to maximize the return from its ability. Cheap minions, especially ones with Rush, are ideal for that purpose.

Following the usual line of value being, "Total stats = Mana value + 1", Festeroot Hulk would need at least two minions attacking to bring it up to par, and three to make it mildly over value (Arguably the point at which it becomes worth playing). For this reason, it's recommended that it not be played on an empty board.

Finally, if being played in an aggressive Warrior deck,  Inner Rage makes it a very fair 4/6 immediately (Also allowing for  Rampage to buff it following), not counting buffs from other minions attacking, and may allow it to become an immediate threat the following turn.
