This minion is a card efficient source of Spell Damage, but its weak stats make it a risky play unless utilised that turn. Ancient Mage might be a better idea if you want +2 Spell Damage and have two other minions, with better stats and potentially sturdier bearers for the Spell Damage. Given this minion's efficiency and consistency, it can be useful to reliably boost the damage of cheap spells. For Mages, Cosmic Anomaly is always a better choice, featuring far greater stats and the Elemental tag with the same effect; alternatively, Azure Explorer offers Dragon synergy and the ability to Discover another Dragon.

For the same cost and more stats, Guild Trader is significantly better and can be Traded if not needed in hand.
