Drain Souls serves as a early-game source single-target removal and healing - something highly valued by Warlocks. Because this card uses Lifesteal both the damage and healing is increased by Spell Damage.
It serves as an almost direct upgrade to 
Drain Life, the only minor downside compared to it being that this card cannot target heroes.
