Change 'Cards with Divine Shield' to just 'Cards'

Card draw and Destroy says just 'Cards'. Why should Divine Shield be different? -- Karol007 (talk) 18:39, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

The extra specifier is called for because there are two card listings: Cards specifically with Divine Shield, and cards (well, card) related to Divine Shield that don't actually have or grant the ability. Just saying "Cards" is awkward because "Related cards" is a subset of the term, but it is not a subset in the context of this article (it is distinct from cards WITH Divine Shield).

There's also just something odd about saying only "Cards". It's a hair TOO concise, and broad. I can't explain why I have this feeling about "Cards" and not e.g. "Strategy" - both are contextualized by the articles they appear in, yet somehow "Strategy" sounds natural to me and "Cards" does not.

Luckily we don't have to fall back on my gut feeling, because distinguishing between "Cards" and "Related cards" is a perfectly good reason on its own :) Believe me, I wish there was a less redundant section title that sounded definitive and natural without repeating the name of the article, but this is better than having one section that implies it is the ONLY section listing cards, when it is not.

The other two articles you listed should actually be changed for that very reason. (Although Destroy's "Related Cards" has other problems...)

P.S. One might argue that "Related cards" SHOULD just be a subsection of "Cards". I'd be okay with that, although changing all the pages would be a huge amount of work for only trivial gain. And I suspect they were originally laid out in 2 separate sections to keep the ToCs from getting unnecessarily bumpy.

I'm roughly in agreement with jerodast. "Cards with Divine Shield" seems preferable as an alternative to "Cards", which essentially means "Divine Shield Cards". There's really only one "Divine Shield Card" - Hand of Protection. Everything else is a card which, in addition to myriad other properties (such as being a minion!), possesses, grants or otherwise features Diving Shield - in other words, "Cards with Divine Shield".

We could put "Related cards" as a subsection of "Cards", but it wouldn't make sense as a subsection of "Cards with Divine Shield", since those cards are not necessarily related to those cards, so much as to the effect/ability itself (even when the difference between these things seems slight).

Ultimately the definitions are pretty rough. I came up with "Related cards" simply in order to separate things like Scarlet Crusader from Blood Knight, and Ironfur Grizzly from Black Knight. The former have the ability, while the latter don't - but do have a special relationship to it. Seal of Champions missing

Seal of Champions is missing from this page -- not really sure how to add it, though -- so someone probably should do so. 64.124.152.55 17:38, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

These card lists are based on auto-generated lists based on abilities on card pages. Some of them are auto-detected, others the community has to add manually. Near the top of the Seal of Champions page I added a line "|addabilities=Divine Shield". If you're curious you can look at the wiki code there to see exactly how it's set up, and could even do the same yourself if you see other missing cards/abilities. Anyway, now that the ability is on the card, the next time the Divine Shield page is re-saved (which I just did), the card list automatically updates. In this case, it was an error in the imported data which failed to list the ability. Sadly there's no way to avoid this other than to manually check through card pages following the import process and make sure nothing's missing. -- Taohinton (talk) 03:18, 6 January 2016 (UTC)

Rallying Blade

Rallying Blade shouldn't be on the list of cards that have Divine Shield as it neither has nor gives it. Could someone who knows what they're doing remove it, please? RandomIcko (talk) 13:25, 7 July 2016 (UTC)

Thank you. Though I have to admit I don't understand what makes cards appear or not appear on the lists. If I look at the data pages on say... Data:Cards/Argent Commander(463) and Data:Cards/Blood Knight(75) they both have Divine Shield in the description, yet they appear on different lists. Why is that? The lists are all generated through special wiki data searches, which look through all the card data and check for certain properties. The main Divine Shield table looks for cards with "Divine Shield" in the Abilities property. For the related cards table, it looks for cards with "Divine Shield-related" in the Tags property. The description isn't used for sorting these things, because the words in the card text itself can mean various things. Blood Knight is a good example: its card text includes "Divine Shield" but the minion itself doesn't have Divine Shield. Similar for cards like Lava Shock or Baron Rivendare. -- Taohinton (talk) 02:47, 10 July 2016 (UTC)
