Hearthstone Wiki:Editing policies/Deck

When creating or editing pages for specific subtypes of decks, such as Ramp Druid, these editing policies should be followed:

When to make a page[edit source]

  • In general, a page for a deck subtype should only be made if:
    • It holds enough significant importance in Hearthstone history that it is notable enough to have its own page.
      • These may include decks like SN1P-SN4P Warlock, that caused a game mechanic to be changed due to its existence.
      • A deck being strong is not enough to make it "historically significant", especially if the result of its existence was for it to simply get nerfed. Strong decks exist in every meta.
        • However, if the nerf caused by the deck was a complete "killing" of a card, such as Patron Warrior's result to  Warsong Commander, this can be seen as being significant enough.
    • Its functionality is not immediately obvious from its commonly used title.
      • These may include deck like Ramp Druid or Pure Paladin, where a new player might not immediately know from the name what type of deck it is, so additional information is helpful.
      • An obvious name would be something like Control Druid or Aggro Hunter, where it is obvious just from looking at the name what the deck's style is.
  • A deck subtype page should generally not be made if:
    • It's a broad deck name, where the commonly played cards may change after every expansion (e.g. Control Warrior).
    • It only existed in one meta without much significance (e.g. Reborn Paladin).

What to include[edit source]

The following information should be included in deck pages:

  • Its definition
  • If built around one card, an image of that card
  • If possible, date of emergence for the archetype.

A full list of possible cards to include in the deck should not be listed, as with there being more and more balance changes in modern Hearthstone, trying to keep the page updated with the current meta is an impossible task.

Why even have these editing policies?[edit source]

An attempt has been made in this wiki's history to list all kinds of deck subtypes that have appeared in different metas. These can now be seen in the archived category.

The result of these was that unless one or multiple editors took the maintaining of these pages as an eager project (which many didn't), they would get outdated REALLY fast. After the wiki contained deck subtype pages that had information from 4+ years ago as if it was still releveant, we decided to just archive these pages altogether.

Another problem is that as a wiki, we should be an archive, which means not removing historical information as much as possible. The way these pages were edited was that if anything in the meta changed, the deck page was edited to match the current meta (cards no longer used were removed, and new ones were added to replace them), when the correct way to edit these would've been to archive every version of that deck for historical purposes. But even that is a hard task to do, so it's not a good project to uphold.
