Although this card doesn't immediately impact the board, it can greatly improve your longevity by adding more cards to your hand. It is comparable to Cabalist's Tome, but is cheaper and is harder to activate successfully.

This card works best in a deck with many small, low-cost Elementals such as Fire Fly and Igneous Elemental, as it lets you upgrade this card and use it as quickly as possible.

This card has synergy with Leyline Manipulator and Open the Waygate. It can be activated by, or provide cards for, Manipulator, and supplies three cards for the Waygate. Note that the upgraded forms of this card itself don't count as "cards that didn't start in your deck" for these purposes.
