Usage of the term "Mission"[edit source]

For clarifying the official capacity of the term "Mission", it is still widely used:

  • "Join Hearthstone Mission Designer Paul Nguyen..." Source
  • "...Dungeon Run–style missions..." Source

I'm beginning to think that "missions" are not the legitimate way to describe these "solo adventures", based upon reading blog posts. Aegonostic (talk) 14:53, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
If Blizzard uses "solo adventure" more than "missions", it might make more sense to start using that terminology on the wiki instead, yes. I'm not sure what to do about KotFT, though, since those Missions are clearly their own thing but Blizzard decided to immediately abandon that model in favor of the Dungeon Run format the expansion after. At one point I considered rewriting this page to something like "Missions are a type of single-player content that was introduced in Knights of the Frozen Throne but then discontinued the following expansion", rather than listing the Missions and all of the Dungeon Run clones on the same page. That's probably way too semantic, though. --DeludedTroll (talk) 15:50, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
Yea, I can't really find anything about missions other than the fact that "Missions" are the 8 "missions" within the Icecrown Citadel solo adventure (source):
The first steps you’ll take to join the Knights of the Frozen Throne will be within Icecrown Citadel. There you’ll be faced with eight Missions – new single-player content for Hearthstone. Beginning with the Prologue, and then proceeding through grueling battles with Icecrown Citadel’s mightiest denizens, your trial will culminate in a showdown with the Lich King!
So I think I would like to suggest this page "Mission" be scrapped, and a "Icecrown Citadel" (or other name) page be created specially for the KotFT solo adventure, and then the Solo Adventures page be the primary ~disambig page for all the solo adventures (I guess distinct from Adventures). Though I may be unqualified to say that "missions" weren't the game plan of Blizzard back in the days of KotFT, since I wasn't playing Hearthstone at that time.
Here's a source from Rumble Run saying how "mission" rewards were changed in the way that they were given out, going from The Boomsday Project missions (Puzzle Lab) to the Rumble Run missions: [1]. I believe that the definition of "missions" is sort of akin to the regular levels/wings seen in the old adventures. It may not really be a game mode per se, and the term "Solo Adventures" might be more suited to describe past, current, and future "solo adventure" content. I think that the current Solo Adventures page be moved to Solo Adventures screen, and that the current Mission page be moved to Solo Adventure. The term "Solo Adventure" is used in the recent Ashes of Outland blog post "New Solo Adventure Coming Soon": https://playhearthstone.com/en-us/blog/23369565/ashes-of-outland-and-the-demon-hunter-are-live. "Missions" might just be referring to the individual boss battles or boss battle runs (e.g. Dungeon Run, Monster Hunt) within the Solo Adventure. Puzzle Lab should be referred to as a Solo Adventure. The term "Mission" could be explicitly defined on the wiki to describe a "Solo Adventure that contains missions". Or as a "Solo Adventure that contains missions but does not come with its own collectible card set like an Adventure does". Aegonostic (talk) 19:38, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
