Brode[edit source]

Hahaha...I'm not so sure we should have a "default source", even if 99% of our info currently comes from Ben Brode :) Staffing / communication can change, and mainly, I'd rather not have a ref that someone simply forgot to add a name for end up improperly credited. - jerodast (talk) 04:38, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

Yeah, I agree ;) I ran the template up quickly when I was adding so many Twitter references so rapidly I wanted a way to super-streamline the process. At the time I was the only one using it, and it was a huge leap in time-saving vs calling {{Cite web}} in full each time, which is what I'd been doing for a long time. It therefore isn't the most newbie-friendly template, but is more of a sneaky shortcut, saving a lot of effort once you're familiar with it, especially if you're referencing in bulk. I had considered revising the template, but hadn't found the incentive to go through and manually fix the ~200 calls. I've now done that though; the template now has no default title, and will shout at you in red letters if you don't add a third parameter. -- Taohinton (talk) 16:49, 14 February 2015 (UTC)
Yeah I definitely get your thinking, and it's great having a Twitter citation template. Perhaps we can make a {{brode}} template to keep the streamlining while keeping this one for general use :) - jerodast (talk) 20:41, 14 February 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, I considered that. I would tend to avoid creating a range of individualised templates though, when an extra couple of words can do the same job. I made a great leap away from stiff functionality and convention, and toward practicality and streamlined usability, when I made the template; I think I just leapt slightly too far ;) -- Taohinton (talk) 04:41, 16 February 2015 (UTC)
