The Lost City of Un'Goro is Hearthstone's 30th expansion, featuring 145 new collectible cards released on July 8, 2025.[1][2] This expansion is stylized as the first-ever sequel expansion, following the events of Journey to Un'Goro. Players join Elise on a hunt for a mythical, lost Tortollan city.

The Lost City of Un'Goro introduces a new keyword: Kindred. Cards with Kindred trigger additional effects if the player played a card with the same minion type/spell school on the previous turn. The expansion also sees a return of the Quest keyword for the third time, previously seen in Saviors of Uldum and Journey to Un'Goro.

Lore[edit | edit source]

Latorvia, the lost city of Un'Goro

Latorvia[3], the "lost city of Un'Goro", is original to Hearthstone. This expansion is stylized as a sequel to Journey to Un'Goro. For general lore about Un'Goro, see Journey to Un'Goro.

Legends tell of a secret truth atop a fire mountain, which turns out to be a secret tortollan city in the heart of the crater. The City was built with the aid of the Titans, using the volcano itself as a source of power. The tortollans were to help develop and safeguard the Titans' experiments in the crater, and over time, their civilization grew. Isolated within the crater, they developed a completely unique culture and way of life.[4]
Our story takes place years after Hearthstone's first visit to Un'Goro Crater. A famous tortollan adventurer, Loh, wants to find his people's fabled lost city. He's enlisted the aid of a couple of familiar faces to guide the way. Elise, the head of the League of Explorers, is back as the party's expert navigator. Umbra also returns; The former leader of the tortollans is the party's guide and liaison. Nobody outside the lost city knows it or its people better, but unbeknownst to the rest of the party, she has a nefarious plan to once again rule the lost city.[4]
Niri is the team's expert on flora and fauna. Niri has lived in the crater their entire life, and no one quite knows how they got there. Driven by survival, Niri knows more about the crater's plants and creatures than anyone, even the tortollans. To Niri, the crater isn't a dangerous jungle; It's just a giant playground.[4]

Journal[edit | edit source]

The journey through the lost city is told through the flavor texts of the Quest cards for this expansion:

Day 1,  The Food Chain
Day 1. The search begins! I joined Elise Starseeker at the outskirts of the Crater, as well as a Tortollan named Umbra and a most curious gnome named Niri. Embarking into the jungle, we stumbled upon the largest tracks I've ever laid eyes on!
Day 2,  Lie in Wait
Day 2. Our first night in the Crater was a tad rough on this old shell. I can't shake the feeling that we're being watched. I swear I saw a glint of shining silver in the dark. I was going to ask Umbra about it at breakfast, but she never turned up.
Day 3,  Restore the Wild
Day 3. We happened upon a clearing filled with dangerous Bloodpetals. As I was noting our findings, the world went dark. My vision is perfect of course, but it appeared as though a large flying shape was blocking out the sun! Confounding indeed.
Day 4,  Unleash the Colossus
Day 4. I am dismayed to report that we thought we'd found a hidden entrance to the Lost City, but in fact it was a Silithid Hive! We high-tailed it out of there faster than a goblin wearing rocket boots. I am not terribly fond of bugs.
Day 5,  Dive the Golakka Depths
Day 5. Elise had a hunch that the Lost City may be hidden deep beneath the Golakka Hot Springs. Niri swam down and discovered a beautiful cavern! The Murlocs may not be hiding an entrance to the city, but it seems they do have a few secrets.
Day 6,  Reach Equilibrium
Day 6. Today we found ourselves in a glade tormented by conflicting Holy and Shadow magic. At its center were two enormous Elementals, like opposite sides of the same coin. I hope one day we'll return here to see this broken place restored to peace.
Day 7,  Escape the Underfel
Day 7. A terrible day! The ground opened beneath us, and we fell head over shell into an accursed rift! Fel choked my keen senses, and demonic beasts emerged from the fog. Thank goodness Umbra was able to use her magic to ward them off while we escaped.
Day 8,  Enter the Lost City
Day 8. We've done it! As night fell, we came upon a brilliantly glowing tunnel guarded by two slumbering Tol'vir. With silent footsteps, we walked through and emerged into the heart of the Lost City! I'm sure my people will welcome us with open arms.
Day 9,  The Forbidden Sequence
Day 9. We were not welcomed with open arms, but with spears! Fortunately, Chief Esho took pity on us and called off the guards. Learning of Elise's expertise, a Titanographer whisked her away to the library. Umbra disappeared in the twisting streets...
Day 10,  Spirit of the Mountain
Day 10. A Tortollan named Bralma took Niri, Elise, and I deep into the mountain. She showed us how the Tortollans move lava up from the base of the volcano through a system of “lavaqueducts.” I was shocked to find a pack of Volcanosaurs living there!
Day 11,  Reanimate the Terror
Day 11. We've been betrayed! Umbra has been meeting secretly with the Cult of the Damned to plan a coup. She and High Cultist Herenn used shadow magic to raise an undead dinosaur army! Tortolla preserve us, the fate of the Lost City rests in our hands.

History[edit | edit source]

Development[edit | edit source]

In Journey to Un'Goro, E. Malone's Expedition Journal mentioned  Spiritsinger Umbra telling the explorers to "climb the fire mountain to see the truth". This ended up being the basis for this entire expansion and the idea for the lost city.[4]

Warcraft Direct[edit | edit source]

On November 13, 2024, in the Warcraft 30th Anniversary Direct, the Year of the Raptor roadmap was announced, which also revealed the names of all expansions in 2025.[5] The expansion's working title in the roadmap was "The Shrouded City".

Teasers and announcement[edit | edit source]

On June 1, 2025, the Hearthstone Twitter account posted an expansion teaser for the expansion with the caption "We dropped the pin. Now it's your turn—where is it?"

On June 2, the expansion was announced and new cards were revealed.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Cora Georgiou is the set lead for The Lost City of Un'Goro.
  • The Lost City of Un'Goro is the first expansion (and second overall card set) to be based on the exact same location as a previous expansion. The first card set to reuse a location was the Return to Naxxramas mini-set, sharing it with Curse of Naxxramas.
  • This is also the first expansion to have the same place name in its title as a previous expansion (Un'Goro).
  • The flavor text of  Submerged Map was the first in game reference to the city's exact name, Latorvia.
