Pet
Pets are a type of cosmetic in Hearthstone. Pets appear during gameplay, replacing the bottom left corner of the battlefield. Pets are only available in constructed, Battlegrounds, Arena, and Practice mode; Pets do not appear in Solo Adventures.[1]
Pets are only obtainable for Runestones through Darkmoon Faire Treasures.
Functionality[edit | edit source]
- Pets react to different gameplay aspects during matches. For example:
- Taking damage makes the pet react negatively.
- Dealing damage makes the pet react positively.
- When the player uses an emote, the pet will react accordingly.
- Pets can also be interacted with by clicking on them and the objects in their board section. When a game ends, the pet will feature a unique background and be visible on the screen, reacting accordingly depending on if the player won or lost the game.
- When pets are interacted with and games are played while they're equipped, they gain experience that will level them up and unlock new variants. Different pets like to see different things during matches, so each one will gain experience in their own unique way.

History[edit | edit source]
Pets were first announced in the Hearthstone Update: Looking Ahead blog posted by Nathan Lyons-Smith on July 26, 2024, almost a year before the first pet was released. They were announced alongside the reasoning for why there wasn't a new battlefield for Perils in Paradise, something not seen before in Hearthstone history.
Pets were included as a reason to why new battlefields became less frequent: "We are still planning to release one new board per year, but we also have some ambitious ideas that we know will be a significant undertaking. Pulling back from three static game boards per year to one allows us to begin work on the coolest possible dynamic stuff - like a system to choose your favorite boards, and pets(!)."
Patch changes[edit | edit source]
